Ulrich Weitz
Managing Director
As Managing Director and later CEO, Ulrich Weitz built IBU-tec advanced materials AG into its current form and led the company to its IPO. Responsible for the Group as CEO until 2023, he is now Managing Director of IBUvolt and is responsible for our battery materials products and services. After studying mechanical engineering, he held management positions for the elevator manufacturer OTIS in Paris in the areas of quality, design and production. Weitz later became plant manager at Winkler + Dünnebier AG, where he was responsible for over 750 employees, until he joined IBU-tec in the 1990s.
Dr. Stefan Schwarz
Head of Sales & Development Cathode Materials
Dr. Stefan Schwarz is responsible for the sales and development of our IBUvolt cathode materials. At IBU-tec since 2018, he acquired extensive know-how in process engineering and customer support in our project management, which he now uses for IBUvolt. In the meantime, he took over responsibility for our battery materials in the newly founded business unit in 2022. Dr. Schwarz studied chemistry at the Technical University of Dresden and completed his doctorate at the University of Bayreuth in the “Catalyst Design” working group on heterogeneous catalysis. After a postdoc in New Zealand at the University of Auckland in the “Centre for Green Chemical Science”, he started his professional career at IBU-tec.
Dr. Katja Kretschmer
Head of Laboratory Analysis
Dr. Kretschmer heads our E-chemistry laboratory. Before joining IBUvolt in 2024, she was responsible for research group management at the Institute of Energy and Process Engineering in Braunschweig. Dr. Kretschmer studied chemical engineering at the Technical University of Braunschweig and completed her doctorate at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) in Sydney, Australia, on cathode materials for lithium-ion batteries.
Dr. Karl Wegner
Head of Research and Patent Administration
Dr. Karl Wegner heads our Research & Development department, where we develop our own products and new materials, and is responsible for patent matters. Dr. Wegner holds a doctorate in inorganic chemistry from the Technical University of Dresden, where he also completed his studies. With us since 2019, he previously worked in research at the TU Dresden.
Christian Klaus
Head of Process Engineering Cathode Material
Christian Klaus is our Head of Process Engineering. Together with his team, he is responsible for the production and development of cathode materials, coordinates plant planning and is responsible for scaling up our own products. With over nine years of experience in process engineering and project management, he has led major projects in research and development and excelled in plant engineering for pulsation reactors.
